My Honda Civic VTI (MB6)

Postby jalesi2001 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 9:27 pm

Hi guys, i have had my VTI for about nine months now, and have done quite a bit already.....
This is her when i got her
Image
She had an accident which the dodgy eBay seller didnt tell me, so she needed a bit of TLC, first thing i noticed was the damage to the N/S/F..
Image
Image
Plus also, the rear exhaust section rattled when i drove it, really embarrasing, so a normal genuine rear box went on, plus a good wash and polish..
Image
Image
Then a full service, changing everything, all the filters, fluids, cambelt etc. etc...
Image
Then got some VTI-S alloys..
Image
Got a new N/S headlight, as it was scratched in its accident.
Image
Carbon effect dash trim went in.
Image
New gearknob
Image
LED numberplate bulbs.. (rubbish pic!)
Image
Also its had a brand new front bumper and support beam, new front fogs, brackets, surrounds, numberplates, VTI front lip, HID BI-Zenon kit, LED front sidelight bulbs, and a ITR front strut brace.
Image
Image
Image
I will get more recent pics up when i show her the sponge!!
Since these pics I have fitted the side and rear lips from a VTI-S, makes the car look a bit lower and better in my opinion!
Image
Image
Plans for her are to get the front VTI-S lip to finish her off, (maybe) ATR rear spoiler, long arm induction kit, de-cat full exhaust section, lower her 40mm, slight tint of windows, nothing to dark, and maybe ITR white wheels.

Please dont get the wrong impression, im not a 21 year old boy racer, i just love the car, and want to get a little bit more power out of her, and make her look a bit better!! ;)
Hope you like her, and I didnt bore you with my long thread!! Any questions or comments, good or bad welcome!!

Ok, another update!!

Finally got round to changing my front outer CV boots today, that job went suprisingly well considering they can sometimes be a git to get the CV joint off the shaft, and back on again!! Big thanks to blacksport01 (Dave) for the help, even when i did hit his arm with my hammer as he was holding my hub out of the way!!

Also went and got the tracking done again, third time lucky this time, i have already had bad experiences with Protyre and Ebley Tyres in Gloucester, both of which are useless and i strongly recommend if anyone needs wheel alignment in and around the Gloucester area, stay well clear, no better than a Kwikfit!! (which are the worst by far in my humble opinion!!)

The steering wheel is (almost) bang on now, im very fussy and so if i want to be ultra critical, then its still very very slightly out, but i'll live with it!! I got the tracking done again for two reasons, one because the other times i have had it done they bugger it up, and secondly, i hit 2 massive potholes last week, which ended up popping my N/S/F tyre!! :o Since then i have noticed that when i accelorate, the car seemed to pull to the right....well i have now had a 4 wheel alignment done, so i know the suspension is all straight, but although it seems better, im still finding it pulling to the right a bit on hard acceleration. Any ideas folks? Possible steering rack buggered or something? Gearbox/diff problem?? Has anyone had this before??

To be honest, as long as the tyres wear evenly i will live with it as its not that bad, and i am certainly not spending the money to put a rack in her!! Any ideas would be welcome guys!

Right, still gotta fit the N/S/F wing, the rear compliance bushes, oh, and clean her for a change!! 8-)

Cheers guys, amazing what a good polish and crappy camera can do ey!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!  I was feeling the bonnet after i had polished her, i could feel loads of bits on the paint. Anyone rekon a clay bar would be worth a go to brighten her up a bit? Or T-Cut... :?

The clay bars give a good result mate, but are a hell of a lot of effort. I've got Meguires clay kit, and did dawns mc and my ma last year, and took ages to do. Ive just done ruby, and tbh i used T-cut (the red bottle, but be careful as its strong stuff! The one for metallics is crap!) got the same results, in not even quarter of the time the claying takes. Plus the quick detailer spray you use with clay runs out, and ive struggled to find another bottle.
The only downer with the t-cut is the white residue, but if you buff most of it of, the use a good polish to remove the rest, it comes off easier

Ok, as some of you know, my brakes, especially my rears have been knackered since I got the car.....(that was a year ago nearly now!!  )

Well after doing a few things to make it better, i finally bit the bullet and got myself some new rear pads and discs, they are only normal Genuine Honda ones, didnt wanna put on some sporty ones on yet, as Im not 100% sure if im gonna need new rear calipers at some point.

Anyway, i got home from work today, and as the weather was nice, i decided to do it on my drive!!
Image

Found some of the sliders seized solid which is fairly common on our civics, so i will need to do a better job of sorting them out in the near future, but i got there in the end.....
Image

After a quick roadtest they all seem to be fine, so im happy for now, and some of the juddering has now gone when heavy braking...i need to get onto the front now, but as i know my front calipers are fine, i may get some grooved/drilled disks and decent pads for the front...watch this space!!

Heres a quick pic to show you just how bad the worse discs was!! Old and new!!

Ok, another bit i got for the beast today, fitted very easily, but as I can be a bit of a perfectionist on some stuff, im not that happy about the bracket thats now loose, but im sure a few cable ties will sort it out...!!

I haven't tried it yet as i haven't got the right size spanner at home, so cant tighten up the locking nuts on the stopper, which is annoying!! Job for the morning!!  :(

Image

And fitted..... 8-)

Image

And heres the promised pic of my cheapo eBay induction kit....

Image

Comments welcome, more updates to come as a few more things are in the pipeline....I will fit the hoses, (if they fit!) when i get my re-conned calipers from Rich in the next few weeks!! 8-) 8-)

Well done a few more things since my last entry!! Talking of changing my wing, i have finally done this now, but i haven't washed her so i haven't got any pics of the finished product, but heres a few pics of her with the old wing off...
Image
Image
Image

I also de-badged the rear tailgate, but left the '1.8VTI' badge on for now...
Image

Re-gassed my A/C...
Image

And also fitted my new grill....this had taken me nearly two weeks, and im fairly chuffed with the outcome, considering it was done in my garage with rattle cans!! Heres a pic of most of the stages....(pic heavy...!!)
Ok, heres the badge and surround once sanded down..
Image
Image

Then after a few coats of primer...
Image
Image

Then some Pirates Black paint thrown at it!!
Image
Image

While i was doing that, i took apart my spare grill...
Image
Image
Image

Then attempted cutting my very thick (too thick really) mesh...
Image
Image
It got a bit more trimmed than that in the end!!

Then as I was waiting for the laquer to dry on my painted bits, i ran the car like this for a few days....Grill Mark 1
Image
Image

Then the day finally came, it all went together, and i decided at the last minute to not fit the H badge, i went for a red badge instead to match my rear red badge. I still have the PB H if i decide to change it at a later date... Heres the finished grill fitted, im quite chuffed for a first attempt, what do you guys rekon???
Image
Image

The goodridge brakelines didn't fit by the way, the rears were to short, i think Blames went for ITR hoses so I will get some of them one of these days!! Also need a new handbrake cable, that'll be fitted this weekend, along with some calipers from Rich... ;) Oh and some new Brake Fluid!!
Image
Image

When i give her a wash i will post some better shots.... More stuff to follow!!
